Tip 3 Focus... and the rest
Focus... and the rest
One of the arguments against measuring machinery efficiencies is that it adds the risk of local optimisation. Perhaps one machine is running perfectly, but it is undermined by the overall poor throughput in the plant. Focus on the separate machines and production lines is needed to optimise production. At the same time, focus on the whole picture is a must.
Case example: Pie-2-Go is doing so well that they have purchased a third production line. The decision is made to implement OEE. This third line is specifically designed for the production of pies in the higher class segment and is equipped with all kinds of sensors that measure almost all production data. The available software converts the data into usable information, allowing the operator to fine-tune the line where necessary. It is expected that this faster line will double overall production. According to the technical specifications and the supplier, this is definitely a viable option.
And the rest
But there is more to this story. After several months of operation, the set target still hasn't been reached. To learn more, sensors are installed on all other machines. After analysing the data, the conversion time from the old packaging machine proves to be the bottleneck. The new, smoother types of cardboard, especially for luxury pastries, gives a longer set-up time. So, the cycles of the new production line in particular are the cause of many delays in the entire production process.
